Minimum Orders Explained: Why 5 Pieces Gets You Better Quality Than "No Minimum"

If you've been shopping around for custom apparel in Sydney, you've probably noticed plenty of printers advertising "no minimum order" as a headline feature. It sounds like the better deal on paper - so it's a fair question: why does PrintArtMe ask for a minimum of just 5 pieces instead of none at all?

What "No Minimum" Usually Means in Practice

Printing a single garment well takes almost the same setup work as printing five or ten - screens need preparing, embroidery files need digitising, and machines need to be set up and calibrated. When a supplier advertises no minimum, that setup cost has to be recovered somewhere, and it's usually built into a higher per-unit price for very small orders, or a rushed, less careful setup process to keep costs down.

Why We Chose a Small Minimum Instead

  • Fair, consistent pricing - a small minimum means we can spread setup costs sensibly, so you're not paying a premium just because your order is small.
  • Time to get it right - proper embroidery digitising and screen setup take care. A minimum order means we're not rushing that process to make a one-off print financially viable.
  • Better blanks, better finishing - we use quality garments and take the time to check placement, sizing, and print quality on every order, which is easier to justify and deliver at 5 pieces than at 1.

Who a Minimum of 5 Actually Works For

A minimum of 5 might sound restrictive, but in practice it fits almost everyone we work with:

  • Small trade crews - most crews and small businesses need at least 5 branded pieces to outfit their team anyway.
  • Hens parties and birthdays - a hens weekend or milestone birthday almost always has more than 5 people in matching tees.
  • Growing businesses - it's a low enough bar that you can get properly branded without committing to a bulk run you don't need yet.

What If You Genuinely Only Need One or Two?

If you're after a single personalised gift or a one-off item, get in touch anyway - we're happy to talk through options, including whether a small custom run or an upcoming Limited Edition drop might suit what you're after.
